The pictures shown seem to be of the first floor, which is leased through August. Are there any pictures of the second floor?

I was showing this to my husband thi morning, he was trying to figure out what has been in it. We live 40 min away from Atwood, he used to go to high school there. It’s a beautiful building and the bay window. I love the ceiling tiles.

The Opera House has had several ‘lifestories’. In 2003 we started the Aberdeen Steakhouse on the main floor – a fine dining and music venue. It is now leased by Mulligans on Main who have steak nights and other special events such as murder mystery meals, etc. You should go visit. What years did your husband go to AHS?

Looks like the “Opera” part of the building was on the second floor. I think that was common in small towns in the 19th when the “opera House” staged all sorts of entertainment events for the town, and sat on the second floor. There is an “opera Houes” in McKinney, Tx. just like this. If I remember correctly, Sinclair Lewis has one in his town in the book “Main Street”.

I love the pic with the little girl on that second floor “stage”! Every Actress needs a place to perform!

This is the owner, Alice Hill. There is access to the basement through one of the bathroom’s floors. It is unfinished but provides access to main sewer/water lines and reveals the foundation walls. Not a place to visit unless necessary. It could be developed, however.

Wow a neat place, and I would keep the ground floor as is and live upstairs. Can the renters of the ground floor contract be renewed? Such a great old building… love it.

The current lease has an addendum that allows the renters to end it early if the building is sold and they do not want to continue, but they are just as likely to want to continue running Mulligan’s on Main. Of course a new contract would be written between owners and renters. Their business has been improving steadily. There is a private exterior access to the upstairs so living up there is very possible. It would be a beautiful place to live with a great view of the town from the south bay windows. The library is right across the street and it is near the grocery store, too.
