    What a great house! The porches won me hands down. Did you see the Texas Star in the corner of the door frames? Very nice touch!

    The explanation for this house as being built for housing workers seems plausible. 1890 also appears to be aligned with the visible details although by 1890 the Italianate style newel post was a bit old fashioned. But for such a utilitarian house, it looks comfortable. The exterior colors are modern choices; for simple houses from around 1890 two or three colors (for the house’s body and trim) usually sufficed.

    Alvin,Texas was slammed by Hurricane Harvey as it is close to the Gulf Coast & an exurb of Houston. I wonder if this house still exists or if it does it must be severely damaged. What a shame!Alvin was in the strike zone where 41 + inches of rain flooded the Metro area.
