This home is a well-preserved piece of history and style. The high ceilings on both stories invoke grandeur and the beautiful hardwood floors speak for themselves. This was an elite home (and still is) when built and has survived very well, with some serious help from the current owners who have worked hard to restore and preserve. Lots of new plumbing, electric and other, upgraded mechanical items. Nice tile in kitchen and baths with double vanity upstairs. You really need to see this house.

$44,500??? I think I want to move to KS! 🙂 This house looks totally livable – just needs some TLC 🙂

Very good start with no re-messing of anything. Look like a good job on everything done thus far. Fantastic price!

A well-proportioned house, on a generous lot, with a good-sized garage that matches the architectural style of the house. It’s always nice to see such a fine marriage of buildings.

There is just enough Arts&Crafts detailing to make the place cosy. I’ve become a fan of a floor plan that brings the main staircase into the living room … it’s much more sociable.

And the energy-efficient sleeping porch. Before the advent of air conditioning (or ‘refrigerated air’ where humidity is not a concern), the sleeping porch made for tolerable repose during hot weather. And for men concerned about their ‘vigour’ and suspicious of central heating, that’s where they’d bed down even in chilly weather. (Honest, I’m not making this up. For proof, treat yourself to a read of “Babbitt” by Lewis – Sinclair, not C.S. He won both the Pulitzer and a Nobel).

Beautiful! Only thing I don’t like is the fireplace, it looks like it was painted, I think it should have been left with unpainted brick. I like the price too.

I can’t believe that this is so cheap! It must be a very small and dying town where nothing sells because that house is completely livable and well cared for. Gorgeous floors and woodwork.

Love it! No carpet and no wallpaper! It looks super clean, too! Be still my heart!

The fireplace hasn’t been painted, it’s that dark brick they sometime use. I think if you saw it “live” it would look better.
The thing that surprised me was the gravel streets. I lived on a gravel road and the dust is hard to keep ahead of in the house. It is a is a beautiful house otherwise. Owners have been thoughtful in their renovating and updated it with respect to the architecture and period of the house.

Looks like dirt road, doesn’t it?! Not that it matters–what piqued my interest was the curbs on all the streets–it’s as if they were preparing to pave many years ago and the funds stopped. Or was this done back then?

The main street looks pretty quiet…notice the Zenith sign!!! I think two grandpas in their Ford pickups got passed by the Google car in the 109 Chicago St. and 104 N Martin St. areas, Lol! I bet they wondered what that was in their rear-view mirror in Turon, KS!

My guess is, there is old pavement or brick under there…and the Kansas wind has covered it with dirt over the years. Probably not too many street cleaners/maintenance crews in Turon anymore. It is a charming little place.

Turon is in Reno County which is where the recent wildfire were if you saw that on the national news. It is west of Wichita, so that is heading out into the wilds of western Kansas. It isn’t an area that is for everyone!

Cute house and at a price that’s hard to walk away from.

Reno County did have some fires. Hutchinson (in Reno County) is not that far away and is a good sized town and NW of Wichita, less than an hour away. Not anywhere near the wild of western Kansas. Lol

40+ miles to Hutchison. Not too bad for that part of KS to be able to get to stores, dr. etc. Long drive in an emergency. I didn’t see any propane tanks with google drive, so there must be utilities. I always check with these tiny communities. I bet it was a hopping place during the time of the railroads going out to Dodge.

The town of Pratt is also only about 20 miles SW of Turon, straight shot down Hwy 61. It has groceries, restaurants, a hospital, etc.

Such nice sympathetic renovations. What a pleasure to behold.
