This house will probably end up being a teardown, I bet. It’s a shame they let it get this bad.

An interesting thing I noticed on the aerial view, though. If you scan left of this property (still staying on Pigeon Hill Road) a little ways, you’ll see a fairly typical brick and shingle 1950s or 60s ranch house, but its perimeter is completely surrounded by tall evergreen hedges (or trees?). Even in the street view, the house is pretty much totally invisible behind all that growth. I guess they don’t have to worry about looking at that new construction across the road. I like that! Wish I could screen out all my stupid neighbors that way. And right outside those plantings that surround the house itself, there’s some more unusual botany. Looks like a plot of land that started as a small Christmas tree farm but was then allowed to become overtaken by weeds & vines. Very odd looking….I wonder what’s the story behind that.

On realtor.com, the listing description now eschews reference to the Declaration of Independence and reads:

Yeah, I saw that. Can’t say I was surprised, since it already looked like it was about to fall in on itself anyway.

I’d prefer the wind knocking this over to somebody deliberately tearing it down. Lame.

I’d prefer someone falling in love with it and saving it. Although I’d like that for every other old house in this kind of condition too. It breaks my heart when you see them in this condition, with no hope of saviour and being advertised for their land instead of their real virtues. It’s a shame when people give up on something that could still bring so much love and happiness into the lives of not just them, but the people that happen to know or drive past this house too. Although there’s something hauntingly beautiful about old buildings in this sort of condition too.
